OUT STANDING CHOREOGRAPHY IN AN EXCEPTIONAL SETTING

The 28th edition of the “Vaison Danses” Dance Festival will take place from July 10th – 24th 2024 in the ancient Roman theatre of Vaison-la- Romaine. This magical setting has captured the hearts of spectators over the course of previous seasons, playing host to world-renowned choreographers and dance companies.
There are five events on the programme this year – “all highlights”, says Pierre-François Heuclin, the festival’s artistic director. That’s what Vaison Danses is all about: a celebration of the full spectrum of dance and creative movement, from contemporary styles to circus arts, hip hop to classical ballet, with a modern twist. In short, it’s a “multi-faceted, rich, joyful, open, vibrant” celebration of movement, as the director puts it.
The audience figures say it all: the 2023 edition brought in 11,000 spectators, including Vaison residents (“who love their festival”), visitors from elsewhere in the Vaucluse and Provence, and dance enthusiasts from further afield, who come for the shows and stay on to explore the area. The festival draws crowds to Vaison’s exceptionally preserved Roman theatre: “it heightens the whole experience”, says Pierre-François Heuclin. “The site makes it about more than just dance. What takes place here is truly exceptional, both for the dancers and for the audience”. A festival to discover, or rediscover, at the earliest opportunity.
